More Bombay Hook

Posted by Kim Steininger under Birds

Well I left my house today fully intending to go kayaking at Delaware Seashore State Park but when I got there it was raining and a lot windier than it was supposed to be so I decided to go to Bombay Hook. If you’ve been to Bombay lately you know there aren’t a heck of a lot of birds there due to the high water levels. Fortunately there were some egrets around so the day wasn’t a total bust. I thought the colors in some of the fields were pretty with the diffused light.

I don’t think this Cattle Egret realized the Great Egret was there when he landed. He stuck around long enough for me to get a picture or two and then took off.

These guys went at it for a little while and then started preening and didn’t pay any attention to each other.

I’m trying to decide if this guy is dirty or if he’s part Cattle Egret. He was certainly acting like one the way he was wiggling his neck and head catching grasshoppers! Any bird experts out there?
